About Our Office
Bakersfield Oral Surgery and Implant Center is an outpatient surgery center. We specialize in taking care of you. We accept most PPO insurances as well as Denti-Cal. When you visit our office, your oral health and safety is our top priority. Our entire team is dedicated to providing you with the personalized, high quality care that you deserve. We provide surgery under General Anesthesia to ensure your visit with us is comfortable and pain free.
Our Team
James Sunwoo MD DDS
Dr. Sunwoo is an oral and facial surgeon dedicated to providing comprehensive care in the head and neck region. His areas of expertise encompass traditional oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic maxillofacial surgery, and cosmetic maxillofacial surgery.
He obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Chicago. He received dual degrees in medicine and dentistry, from the University of Southern California and Columbia University, respectively. His postgraduate training, including an internship and residency, in general surgery and maxillofacial surgery, was completed at the University of Southern California.
His extensive training and background affords him the ability to offer the highest standard of care to his patients.
Office Manager
Erika has over 15 years experience in the dental field. She has a passion for dentistry, specifically oral surgery and enjoys helping patients. Erika also helps our practice to run smoothly and efficiently by making sure our team has everything needed to perform successful treatments.
Back Office Staff
Our doctors are backed by an amazing staff. Whether you are in our office for the first time having your New Patient Evaluation or you are a returning patient coming in for surgery or a follow up, rest assured you will be under the best care possible. All of our surgery staff are ACLS certified and have the knowledge and experience to take care of you.
Front Office Staff
Our front office staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have. From insurance and billing to scheduling your initial New Patient Evaluation appointment. Do you have questions regarding surgery? Give our surgery coordinator a call for any additional information you may need to prepare you for your big day.

Evaluation Appointment
Your first appointment is very important to us. We will gather information such as your health history, the treatment you are being referred for, x-rays and photographs. We will go over the treatment plan, and what is to be expected the day of your surgery as answer any questions you may have regarding the treatment. We will also obtain insurance benefits and breakdowns.
Instructions Before Surgery
It is very important that you follow the directions that are given to you before your appointment. This will ensure that we give you the best care possible while at our office.
